This is a very special year! The 20th annual celebration year of Casual Day, so the theme expresses a sense of occasion.
Dust off your dancing shoes.
Let Casual Day banish the blues.
Dress UP and be bold, we’re 20 years old.
Jazz up yo jeans, with tassles and beads,
to support the activities
of persons with disabilities.
The theme is …. Bring out the Bling, put on the ritz, rustle up a little razzle dazzle with outfits inspired by the nightlife of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. To celebrate Casual Day’s 20th birthday we are inspiring South Africans to dress UP, not down. Go POSH CASUAL!
And most importantly… WEAR YOUR STICKER!
Our colour for the year is Dazzle Blue, a dramatic colour relating to the world of the theatre. Blue is the colour of a new pair of jeans. Top that with your blue shirt, then add a little glitter on your lips, a layer of beads and a couple of bangles and you are ready to go. Cover yourself with sequins and stars, shiny lipstick and shimmery eye-shadow. The guys can draw on the styles of the 20s, 30s and 40s – the slicked back hair, the fedora hats, the casual jackets and the flamboyant attitude.
The styles of the 20s are back on the international catwalks. So step out in style in your best top hat and tails, or your evening gown if you are a lady. We’re talking posh casual at its best. Accessorise that with strings of pearls, shiny beads and a feather boa, a fabulous hat or a feather in your cap. Of course, you don’t have to follow that recipe exactly, you can wear your mini skirt with the tassles and fringe, adding a blingy headband and a swishy feather.
Casual Day is all about fantasy so there is no need to go overboard and spend a fortune on an outfit. Just jazz it up with a swish of fabric and that all-important jaunty swagger. So, bling is the word… Bring out the Bling and dazzle for disability in 2014.
